Shock! Elbow won the Mercury Awards–who would have thought it? The awards that normally side with new, upcoming acts (only 4 of all the winners since 1992 have not been debut albums) gave the £20,000 cash prize to a band with 18 years experience and 4 albums under their belt. There’s a moral about never giving up in there somewhere…

Talking of never giving up - this month we’ll be rocking it up at the O2 with Metallica and headbanging on the Hell On Earth tour. We’re also off to check out Lavondyss, an insanely classy progressive hardcore band. We should bag an interview with French metalcore outfit Cataract whilst Pelican and Torche will also get a grilling. A lucky dip from the postbag reveals we have album reviews coming from Underoath, Dartz!, Calexico, Falconer, We The Kings, and The Maybes? Oh, that wasn’t a question… that’s there band name, apparently. Ciao for now!
