Single Review: The Metros

FOUR[Single: Last Of The Lookers]
[Label: 1965 Records]

In the space of twelve months, Peckham boys The Metros have risen from practically nothing to selling out headlining tours across the country, as well as being picked to join the roster on the recent MTV Spanking New Music Tour. They are signed to the impressive 1965 Records and with new single ‘Last Of The Lookers’ they look set to finally break into the mainstream.

The song itself is a work of pop-punk genius. The band effortlessly combine fun-filled pop lyrics, with some stripped down rock and roll. What makes it impressive is the swagger and almost sheer arrogance of The Metros which somehow manages to be infectious.

Kicking off with a tight guitar riff and backed up with some energetic drums, the band launch into their new single determined to make an impression. Vocalist and front-man, Saul Adamczewski, introduces himself with a typically defiant “Oi!”. You get the impression straight away that he and his band mean serious business. The lyrics are topical and should connect with a youthful audience, and so they should considering the band themselves are still only in their early twenties. You get the sense that this tune will definitely be a crowd favourite at their reportedly chaotic gigs. There are even some riff-tastic solos that will please the rock purists out there.

The Metros are doing things the right way, playing lots of gigs and writing songs that both connect with their audience and appease their musical thoughts and ideas. It will be an important summer for the band with notable festival appearances at Glastonbury, Oxegen, T In The Park, Summersonic (Japan), Reading and Leeds.
